Note: To move from my HowLongToBeat profile.
Note: This doesn't containg my library on Steam as due to my artificial restriction I might value a game higher than it actually is so we are going to stay away from those for now.

I never played Elder Scrolls, maybe a bit of Skyrim but I never truly gave them any time, and the recent Bethesda games and how they treat their developers and paying customers certaingly didn't help. So, coming from that into this demo, within the first hour I was exploring like crazy.
I immediately found out that the game wants you to experiment. When I was hiding in a whole just throwing fire-balls at three enemies and they couldn't do anything to me, I got it.
P.S: Prices of games in India increased in 2023 on steam so I won't be able to afford it anyways. I am glad I played as much as I did but knowing that if I get too invested in this, I might want to play and I don't want to pirate games, I am uninstalling this half-way through. It's a good game and even went on 40% discount but when ever penny counts, I would rather pick up games at 85-90% off even if I have to wait many years.
Note: I got introduced to this game in the wrong way. I was said it's a first person souls like and this is clearly wrong so I just went ahead quickly to the first boss fight with zero exploration and got obliterated.
Be this a lesson to everyone who reads this later that a wrong expectation can ruin a game for you even if you're not the setting it.
Older Review where I thought this was a first person souls-like: At that time this was not recommended
Great concept, horrible execution.
The combat wasn't polished and hence it never clicked with me.
But at the end of the day, there simply are better games out therer then spending time on this. FromSoftware's Souls likes regularly go on 50% off and is a better purchase than this.
If you can, get Elden Ring as it is better for someone new to souls-like but it will be slightly expensive than this
If your budget is tight, pick-up Dark Souls Remastered as it will be the same price at 50% off.
P.S: In a world where no better games existed, yes, I might have played this more but there simply are so many better games out there than this.
Just another few games I saw as popular cracked but haven't decided if I want to get into them yet:
Cyberpunk COD
PS2→ Drakengard PS2→ Ratchet & Clank PS2→ Spiderman 2 PS2→ Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus PS3→ Shadow of the Colossus→ Saw first release as a kid and always wanted to play it. PS3→ Infamous→ Keep hearing a lot about it. PS3→ Demon's Souls PS4→ Bloodborne → Just heard a lot but maybe after I finish Dark Souls series PS4→ The Last Guardian→ Liked the concept
Wii→ Silent Hill: Shattered Memories → Creator of Her Story SNES→ Super Metroid→ Kept hearinga a lot from EFAP GC→ Metroid Prime → EFAP
I am sure if you compleltely reject the main "yellow marked" missions and only do the side-missions, you will have a great time. The problem is, you have to go through 80+hrs of main story to get to that. Main Story Criticisms: ====================== The main story was far too much over-hyped and the ending didn't make sense because we didn't get much choice at all. There were few choices here and there but they are all artifical anyways. You try doing one thing slightly differently than what the game wants you to do and immediately you are lost. There is some charm in the game but due to the way the chapters are created, it means you have to first finish the complete game and then if the game allows you to continue, you continue, or completeliy forget the main stories and focus on the side missions completely but you won't be able to figure out when to do it. A lot of things in the game are just animations over and over again. There is no user choice in them but just do this this way and keep moving ahead. Sure, there are great things about this game and I am sure I will find the charm after the game has ended but I truly expected the mainn story to be a bit more structured and a bit more game in the main game. I often found myself just click to cutscene, follow on horse cutscene, cutscene and then shoot some guys and then cutscene. Even if they are active cutscenes, they are still cutscenes. Definately won't recommend it personally to anyone unless they are looking for a pretty linear story. While I was playinng this I actually got real bored and started to look for games with agency and it looks like Cyberpunk 2077 might be what a game should be like, or even, old Splinter Cells or Dishonored or just any game that gives me some agency, some choice, to feel like a gamer. Epilogue story was a chore to do. It made no sense and was pretty pathetic honestly. Should not have bothered honestly. I will say this though, after playing this I am super-hyped for Legends of California if that can be played without PvP because that might satisfy the itch I got from this. Gameplay: ========= Dead-eye is so joke. It's one thing to slow time and give kids an advantage but it's another thing to make it so powerful that playing without it is shooting yourself in the foot. I hated that I had to rely on Dead-eye for so much but you can't normally shoot, the reticle takes a long time to bcome accurate without it and you end up just healing all the time anyways.
You are basically John Wick who has some Mr. Bean type adventures in a sci-fi plot. It's an alright one hour point and click game. Yes, there are better games out there but realistically if you got this in a bulk sale like so many more, it's better to just play and finish this game instead of looking for another game for an hour.
A visual/audible masterpiece held back by it's frustrating gameplay
This game is a great work of art and if you can perservere over some very confusing and lengthy parts of the gamplay, you should give it a shot just to immerse yourself in the video/audio of this game that happens OUTSIDE OF GAMEPLAY.
But as a general recommendation I can't recommend this blindly like I have recommended other such type of games like Exo One or Journey. The gameplay can get really really frustrating and lengthy at time and it really pulls it back.
The problem that happens with the gameplay is that it's can't make up it's mind if it's trying to be a easy linear gameplay or precision platformer. This constant switching really harms this piece of art which otherwise is a masterpiece worth experiencing even just once for yourself.
I need to decide now finally if I should recommend this to people or not.
On one hand as I said it's a masterpiece to behold but considering the frustrating gameplay parts I would not mind if you just watched the cutscenese of this or a gameplay instead of experiencing this yourself.
On that note, [strong]it's not a recommendation[/strong]. If your involvement doesn't matter and the involvement might put you off from this game, I would rather that you watch the gameplay of this "game" and enjoy the art in it than trying to play the game and quitting in frustration.
What is the gameplay trying to be?
I don't understand what the game is trying to be! On one hand it keeps everything linear and holds my hands and walks me through every paths and then suddenly gives me a really precise and tight timing required platforming for no reason. I don't get it.
I am on two minds right now. I understand the artistic aspect of it and adore it but the game part is something I am not enjoying. Definately would not recommend to friends as they will kick me for giving them something so confusing to play. It's not a fun playing experience that's for sure.
Alright I will try to explain them a bit:
Gameplay Negative Aspects:

The gravity change thingies are just weird. If it was truly something to wrap your brains around I would let it pass but since everything is so linear there is no point.

The three flower jump is really really inconsistent. Sometimes it works on first try sometimes it doesn't.

Why is there a need to rush through some of the sections? I don't get it. It's not hollow knight where I need to be super serious, I thought this was a chill game. I don't mind either but if you set a precedent, follow it through

And why are there precision jumps everywhere?

I really can't tell you how I "found" some starts. I just keep wandering like an idiot and it all just kept happening. Very unsatisfying.

I am not saying it's difficult. I am saying it's very confusing even if it's linear.

It is slightly frustrating that sometimes you can pass through objects and sometimes you can't. It's only a slight issue that I can live with.

Some other notes I made when playing it
+I guess that's the thing about these games, you can't pinpoint the exact underlying theme.
+Really beautiful well put-together water color paint more than a game actually.
-The coolest part of the game was a cutscene when it could have been a proper gameplay.
-No brutal death animations. What I actually mean is you can't die even in tense situations where you feel like you should.
"It's not a good sign for any game when I start looking at the clock and start wondering how much more there is left of it. I have played Journey, Exo One and actually being sad knowing it will finish soon and even stayed on the Credit Screen for hours but here I am being honest, I just want it to be over.
Hard to even make fun of!
This is what I initially wrote about the game as a joke. I always make fun of stuff and people I love. Now, I really don't even want to put it at the top anymore. This is what I would have started with if I actually liked the game.
Is this game about periods? Anyways it has something to do with despair.
Modern day 2-hour Opera for Normies who can't go to an actual one with an excellent visual treat.
These types of games are hard to write review by because it's incredibly difficult to put such a mesmerizing expression of art in words.
Yes, this is not your typical "game" per se, more of a sandbox with pretty linear way of progress and normally I wouldn't play these games but by chance Exo One changed my life. I was just looking for a flying game and I accidentally picked up Exo One and then I started to look more into these games and also loved Before Your Eyes & Journey.
This definitely is going in that list.
Something changes with a good music direction in these games. As soon as the right music plays, all judgements disappear and you are engrossed in the game.
Constantly getting shocked was really fun.
Only to the ultimate shock and lose my only friend in this game.
It's alright. It's a good story. The bullet-hell game-play which was making me not pick this up was non-existent. It's a story game with all reading, but that's not a bad thing.
The story is decent and in some places a few sound tracks* really blows you away honestly. But I guess I expected a bit more or maybe my expectations were set really high due to everyone talking about this game, whichever it was, I don't feel comfortable giving it a more than a 6 out of 10.
Yes, it's decent but I won't go out of my way to recommend this to people I know unlike other games like Exo One.
* Just one actually: Waterfall
Update: The Director's Cut has extra roads and I really want to try but in no way I am buying it on Epic instead of Steam. I can't even review games on Epic, what's the bloody point! Note: Played the Epic Game Version so it won't show up on my profile on steam. I gave the pirated one a try and didn't realize how part of the game the multiplayer aspect was. Soon with Epic Games free game claim I got the game as I couldn't buy the game on Steam even on a huge discount(I feel disappointed I couldn't but moving on). Once I saw a comment on fitgirl site for Death Stranding 2 that it's better with a proper copy-with multiplayer and playing the pirated one just isn't the way to play this game, I downloaded it on Epic where I had it for many months and sat down and actually gave it a try. And yes, it was worth it. I am in the 20-hour right now where I have invested a lot more time in other stuff than the main story, NOT DOING OTHER SIDE-QUESTS but just exploring and figuring out how differnet mechanics work. So, it's not just a walking simlulator. As you progress through the stories, many systems unlock and you see a better and easier way to do things all the time. I won't spoil anything but just so you know doing the same thing after a few hours might just get so much easier that you won't think about it. And the social things is a great thing. You use stuff left by other people and you help other peope by putting stuff for them. You never see other players in the game but you affect them a lot. Later something opens up that requires a lot of people to work together that will help literally everyone else. +I don't recommend multiplayer games mainly PvP and I don't recommend sandbox/management games. This game shows that both can work if it's tied to a story that cab be finished. + I am not a fan of endless titles especially roguelites and management games, however, this game shows how it can be done properly. Also, there are so much in depth topics covered that I am surprised by it. #QOL HUGE CON: There are a lot of things that are not intutive and in the beginning hours you keep trying to fight with the system where you will spend more times trying to figure out how something works instead of just making it work. Sometimes the skip is A, other times is B button. It's very very annyoing when you're in the middle of the fight just trying to manage and bring up your inventory. Yes, this could have been done a lot better. Also, I don't understand how Keybooard/Mouse users might cope with it. Here are some thigns that will help: 1) Eat Cryboite if you're in a fight and you see blood levels going down. Make it priority especially on higher difficulty. Cons: If I visit somethign that comes later nothign happens. It's pretty linear in that recard.
→ With the Junk Dealer and her foreign girlfriend, they should have let her speak in her own mother tongue and added subtitles. It was supposed to be an emotional song but I kept lauging my ass off. → After the Episode 4 warzone the lady on the call can't believe that I have been in a warzone for a longer period of time than that happens. Jesus Christ! Is that THAT far from the current universe where dead people become ghosts and a giant monster chases you around! I think she was irritating for the sake of being irritating. → The antimatter bomb insidie the moutnaints was supposed to be delivered on foot by usign the newly unlcoked zip-lines but I didn't realize I should do that I just took my van and roamed around very very slowly and just about delivered it blowing up. It was genuinely cool that I could do that no matter how difficlt it was.
#Extra Notes: ##Systems Design As Hideo Kojima said in the interview how he loves the fact that when a game system designed for something else works in another way, it's that sense of excitement, and I kept trying to see what can work where and just calmly enjoying the game I saw the game and wrongly though it was just a walking-simulator with unskippable cutscenes that get in the way like so many other movie games right now, but I never get it an actual try. ##Difficulty: Very Hard Not trying to be a hero or anything but the detailed description matched my playstyle. I wish more games did that. Most other games don't really tell you what to expect in what difficulty but I relly liked this about it.
By Chapter 11 when I had to do that awful fight again, I lowered the difficulty to the lowest because I was sick of the horrible controls both on controller and on the mouse/keyboard. Maybe it wasn't balanced properly also, also I coudn't kill Unger just because I was "not in range" so most of my tactics were useless. This was artifical bad difficulty and I hated it. Even if I pump up the difficulty again it won't go more than nomral.
#Gear: Use Controllers for that feedback. Use great headphones/speakers with DAC. The songs in this game are in itself a reason to play this game.
Was hooked from the beginning. Just simple puzzles and the songs running in the background were enough to keep me wanting to play more and more. Towards the end of the game, the HLGBTQ stuf really became too much but I still was playing trying to solve all the puzzles by myself. The LGBT stuff really started to become too much towards the end of the game. I am fine with it but there literally was a lot of it and it was all combined together so I did miss the important hint in it just because the forums were presented in a way that it hinted that I should skip all this LGBT stuff altogether. Whereas I would have much loved a shorter forum about LGBTQ stuff as people might have been more interested if that was your goal, which who am I kidding, it of course was.
Indika:
What a great fucking game. From the first time I saw the trailer I knew this was going to be something great even though I wasn't sure how exactly.
And if fucking was. 10/10 even if it's mostly a movie with some basic puzzles in it. I knew the experience I was getting into and I liked it.
I would be like if this game didn't put a smile on my face.
Also, the story was engaging enough that it kept me playing.
Very minor cons here and there but I am willing to look past them over the overall story that it did provide.
Controls:
The camera keeps shifting up and I don't want that. It's very irritating.
The well controls were really bad both for keyboard and controller. In keyboard you can atleast do A-D only and that makes it bearable.
Update: There could have been a lot more game mechanic which would have made it a ten like something along of lines of actual stuff happening on correct deductions. For now, the deductions are mainly in our head, yes, they are still great, but that's it.
Played around 3 hours of the game and it's exactly what it showed from the trailer.
I have already written down five different sheets of paper full of things I want to check more and more even though I haven't yet figured out how the end game works yet.
Even without knowing that it's a great experience to witness things unfolding in front of you.
Yeah, as it says in title.
I tried disabling subtitles and all audio and it was still very very cringe to play. I tried to not focus on anything apart from the actual spider-man game but it kept putting me in weird non-spider-man plays which are really really pathetic. I can do that in other games, I came here for spider-man.
On top of that they keep making fun of Peter!
I could have done all that if the game didn't turn into a button mashing brain dead simulator. I am giong to play the older games now.
Looked pretty great as a kid so wanted to try it out for myself but the gimmicks in it stop becoming fun pretty quickly and then it just gets boring. Tried both with controller and the keyboard.
I guess as a kid I would have loved it, but now with so many other alternatives there is no reason to try it out anymore.
And before you say it's for two players and it's more fun that way. Any game becomes fun when it's multiplayer. Even the worst most terrible game becomes fun because of it so you should not judge a game just based on that unless it's just targeting multiplayer.
