Frequently Asked Questions FAQs Before buying Lenovo Laptop
Before buying from Lenovo.com
Q. Is it safe to buy from Lenovo.com?
Ans. I myself have ordered three laptops over the years from Lenovo.
The first time I got my first Legion in 2022 from Lenovo I
was scared shitless just like you are.
Which site is this? No one talks about it. Everyone either buys offline or buys from
amazon/flipkart. So, I decided to risk whatever little money I had and bought the laptop from there and the
channel sort of started with that.
Since then I made many videos about my buying expereince from Lenovo and helped other via DMs to make
them buy their gaming laptops also.
So, in short, yes, it's safe to buy from Lenovo.com but a few things to be aware of:
It's no open box delivery. The package will be delivered to you in proper packaging. If you see any sort
of tampering from anywhere(local delivery scammers do this), refuse the delivery right away.
And regardless of if you refused the delivery or not, let lenovo know right away. They want a
confirmation from you in under 24hrs.
It's very very important to check the laptop for any defects right away. Don't postpone
is just beacuse you're out of station. Get someone, even a non-tech person to try to do this as this is
very very important.
You need to test it right away.
There was one person who was outstation and
the laptop's box had some sort of damage and when he checked it days later the display was damaged.
If this happens to you (and you didn't tell Lenovo right away)and didn't buy
ADP, DON'T CONTACT LENOVO, but instead get ADP immediately wait for the ADP
to show up(takes about a month), and then contact Lenovo saying you accidentally broke it stating a date
just after ADP.
If however, you did buy ADP like an absolute chad you are, just wait for it to activate(for saftey, you can contact them ealier but the brain-dead
employees won't understand that you already got ADP and it's Lenovo's fault that it hasn't yet been
activated and not yours) and then tell them you want to claim ADP.
Again, it all can be avoided if you just check it right away.
Q. Is it safe to buy a customized laptop from Lenovo that can take weeks to months to deliver from
Lenovo.com?
Ans. The normal stuff about delivery and checking and all applies like above but let's talk just about
customized laptops in particular.
..... to write more...
Q. How long does customized laptops actually take to deliver?
Ans.
23 days is the average time it takes for a laptop to deliver regardless of what it says on the website and
how many mails you get.
However, during a new laptop launch or sale time(basically when they get a lotS of orders at once), the delivery can take upto 40 days.
Till now I have not seen a longer period than that.
But assume the given date on the site and add a few weeks on that as that's the shipping start date as your delivery time.

Q. Can I upgrade RAM/SSD by myself? Does Lenovo put any sticker to void warranty on opening laptop?
Ans. Yes, you can upgrade by yourself. Lenovo doens't add any stickers of "Warranty Void" thing. ANd you can do it by yourself but careful not to damage any components internally especially on laptops that have extra RGB on the outside because you will have to claim ADP on it.
Also, read the hardware manual of your laptop properly as it's very much detailed.
If you call and ask any Lenovo agent or service centre people, they will scare you into making sure you do it from themselves so that they can sell you expensive SSD, RAM or just charge you lots of money from it.
Just don't sell your old RAM/SSD until the life of the laptop. Lenovo can give you full refund on the machine if something goes horribly wrong even at the very last of the warranty period(3 years+1 year which you buy later).
Note about upgrading SSDs: Some large capacity SSDs have chips on both sides and on some laptops their are screw standoffs(screw female that is actually a male on the outside basically LGBTQ screw that you can remove) that you must remove so that the SSD doesn't bend in the middle.
On very few laptops there are something else on the laptop that obstructs your way.
Once installed, you can use their own software if you plan to move the whole OS to the new SSD but I recommend moving the data only to the new SSD as that's yours.
If you upgrade both SSDs, don't sell the older SSD until you have warranty.
I already have some SSD recommendations here.
Note about upgrading RAM: Just know the basic like DDR5 can only accept DDR5 RAM and you a higher RAM will automatically run at the maximum speed the CPU suggests and more which I promise to go over here along with some recommendations.
Don't sell the old RAM until you have warranty.
Q. Does buying three years ADP on top of 1 year ADP means I will get 4 years ADP?
Ans. No, it's written in their T&C and also in every brands T&C that the maximum ADP you can get for the discounted price is three years. After you have the laptop and normal three years ADP has activated, you can buy one year more extended but it will be more than what you paid for the three years in itself.
Q. International Warranty?
Ans. Check IWS FAQ and this if you already got your laptop.
But in general, it's always best to call lenovo before hand to know if the laptop you are buying in India or outside and moving to some other palce has international warranty or not.
A few Legions did have international warranty and many expensive Thinkpads but instead of assuming the same, please call the brand Lenovo as the things keeps changing all the time.
Note: I will add some real examples if someone actually does this after contacting me.
Examples
This is my LOQ 14700HX 4060 that has 3 years ADP in India and as you can see it has no international warranty at all.
Q. Does lenovo give bonus on exchanging old laptop and if how?
Yes, but the bonus amounts keep changing. Please check this link to know the current rate.
Lenovo does it via Cashify and this might be a bit weird but there is no sort of indication that you will get bonus cashback. You just have to make sure same contact details are used for cashify as it was used for ordering from lenovo.
I know it's so fucking dumb but it is what it is.
This video explains better:
Q. How do I get credit card cashback?
It is not a discount.
It gets credited to the credit card bank account. The video will explain in more details.
There is no visible confirmation that you will get the credit card cashback but as long as you pay in full in a credit card and use it once during an offer you will get the credit card cashback as per T&C usually under 45 days though as per T&C it can take upto three months.
These videos will explain more:
Note: If your question is not here, comment on this post(follow the channel guidelines) and it might be answered. Not specific questions like I ordered this day, it's this this, when can I expect it. I delete such questions
but in general stuff like the ones above.
After you buy Lenovo Laptops anywhere
Cheap Warranty Purchase or ADP immmediatley after reciving laptop
In countries like India if you scroll bottom to the page on lenovo.com you will see:
A website link where you can buy extended warranty from.
In this case, for India at the time of writing it is: buyalenovo.com On this site you can buy three years ADP on many laptop models(but not all: Thinkpads and some other
sub-bands don't have it) for quite cheap: Rs.4000 for a three year and at the end of the three year period you can
extend it one more year for somewhere around Rs.5000 My LOQ 14700HX 4060 extra warranty options
Looking for size of CPU and GPU to buy PTM?
Check your hardware manual by going to lenovo
warranty page, under guides and manuals there is hardware manual and search for "thermal interface
materials".
Cancelling Lenovo Order→ NOT POSSIBLE
It's not possible to cancel Lenovo Customized order at all.
However, a few people did manage to cancel their order but in no way it means that you will be able to do so. In any case, here they are:
Apply Temperature limit if your CPU/GPU keeps hitting high temperatures.
On power efficient CPUs like newer AMD ones, the peformance hit due to this is negigible compared to Intel
as you will see in the point after this.
Tweak fan curves on your Lenovo Intel HX Laptops for safer laptop | Probable reason for LOQs dying
Undervolt Intel HX CPUs for lower temperature with very little drop in performance
There are hundreds of video on how to do this effeciently online with throttle stop and everything but since they focus on getting the most out of the system, they can get quite tiersome and can bring instability. Here's a simple thing I do. Might actually not get a time to make a video on this so I thought I should atleast put in the steps here.
Make sure you Lenovo Vantage or Legion Tool is set to Custom Mode already and you have already done the fan tuning from above. This needs Custom Mode to work
Disable Intel Virtualization and enable Legion CPU optimizatoin(Or CPU overclocking).
Note: If you need Virtualization for some reason(Android App Development, Android Game emulation) I will try to do the same via ThrottleStop later and and add it here.
Download and install the latest version of Intel XTU
Open XTU and set it to start on Windows if not already.
Start→ Type "XTU" → Right Click Intel Extreme Tuning Utility →
Open File Location → Copy this shortcut
On the address bar go one level up into Programs then Startup→ Paste
Ctrl+Shift+Esc→ Taskmanager Opens → Startup → Confirm Intel XTU is set to enabled
Determine Safe Voltage Offset and Ratio Multiplier for your machine
While being in Compact view, reduce the offset voltage by one point(-0.01V should be defualt) and increase the P-Core Ratio and E core Ratio by 1. Hit Apply. Use your system as you normally do and run some benchmarks.
If system doesn't crash, decrease the value a little more and increase the multiplier a bit more also.
And keep repeating until the system crashes and note down the last value(I suggest taking a screenshot before hitting apply everytime). Yes, it will crash with BSOD, don't worry.
Once crashed go back into BIOS to confirm Virtualizaiton is disabled and CPU overclock/Legion Optimizatoin is enabled.
Test a safer value than what you tested right now. Keep doing this unless you get a safe P-core and safe e-core ratio and also a core voltage offset.
Note: For me it was originally at 51x 39x 0.0V and my system could handle 56x 44x -0.05V
Go into Advanced View and here we are mainly concerned with these things:
The P-core/E-core Voltage Offsets and Ratio Multipliers needs to be set from before where you found the stable values
The magic happens here in TVB Temp 2 actually. Just set it to a safe value, I set it to 85°C which I feel is good enough and voila your CPU isn't heating anymore.
Now to make it persistent and so that you don't have to do it all the time.
After you have selected all the values, go into profiles and click on save and it will ask you a new name. Give it a name and done.
Note: To see a value in a profile merely clicking is not enough, click on it and then select apply.
Go into profile pairing→ Add Profile
In choose application, simpley write explorer.exe
You see the genius at work here don't you? Since XTU will only run this profile when an applicaiton is launched, why not link it to an applicaiton that we all know WILL always be launched, explorer.exe.
Sometimes My Genius Is Almost Frightening
Select Profile in AC POwer Mode and Battery poower mode: The same profile we selected here.
Note: If you are as smart as me you already have started thinking what can I do with a differnet profile on battery power? Maybe I will reduce the maximum clock the CPU can run at or limit the CPU power so it runs longer and you're exactly right. I just don't have the time to do it but if you do, do comment on the post linked below for others.
Click on Save.
And that's done. Restart system to see Intel XTU's Dunnnnn! message and select yes and you're done. Run some benchmarks, play some games or better yet, like a madman like me, just put all the values in tray with HWinfo64:
This Playlist has many videos related to lenovo laptops after purchase(most are related to India but still worth
checking until I have incorporated it above):
Customized Laptops
Refurbished Laptops
Once you get laptop immmediatley check RAM speeds, Battery Charge Cycle and SSD speeds. These are three things
they give old and don't bother checking. Check with the laptop purcahse link what you were supposed to get and
ensure every spec matters. There things need to be doen right after purchase, you can't claim it later.
Important Stuff
Summary:
Budget friendly laptops and also provides ADP(Accidental Damage Protection) and replacement when things go bad.
Compared to other brands they do look good BUT the downtimes if things go wrong while multiple motherboard
replacement is a huge deal and if that's your only machine it is going to be a pathetic experience.
General: All Laptops/Sub-brands:
Pros General:
Decent specs for the price. Sometimes the cheapest with cashbacks and rebates.
Lenovo, Dell & HP are the brands which third party repair shops recommend due to availability of parts.
Neutral General:
Parts can be replaced with refurbished. (Every brand has this line written in their Terms and Service:
Replacement parts may be refurbished but it will be working. If they can't provide a working replacement, they
have to legally provide refund.)
Cons General:
Multiple Replacement Motherboards are
non-working so you might end up weeks with a dead machine:
Every brand has this line in their Terms and Service that they will provide working replacement parts
under warranty or ADP Lenovo they have a habit of giving replacement motherboards even if you have
replaced it multiple times. This is not an uncommon thing and has happened with many people including me.
This is a huge deal as for weeks or months you will have a non-working machine due to this and God forbid
you don't have an extra SSD for data then it also means you have to format your windows multiple
times without any reason to. And even when they do provide a refund, it's provided after multiple
motherboard replacements and months of time wasted.
Customer support asks to clean install Windows every time with every drivers before providing a proper response
which takes hours. This is again a huge deal considering that if something does go wrong, even if the support
exists, they will waste your time going to do these things even if they do it via remote, it's still time
wasted.
Customer support are fucking stupid assholes who will give absolutely fucking dumb ridiculous responses in
trying to make the customer leave such as:
Don't play games on a gaming laptop.
This laptop runs fine in normal use. Even if it doesn't reach it's full potential while gaming, it
looks fine to me.
We don't care what temperatures and wattage is shown in third party tools. We don't care. We will
only use the Legion Diagnostic Evolution tool which doesn't show the CPU Package temps but only Core
temps(Package temps especially for hot CPUs like Intel HX 12th, 13th and 14th gen can go quite high often
crossing the Tj.max which is 100°C).
Budget Gaming Series: LOQ, IdeaPad Gaming
Pros apart from the general ones:
Full Refund if bought from Lenovo.com but with a lot of trouble.
Excellent value for money if combined with discounts/cashbacks.
Neutral apart from the general ones:
Cons apart from the general ones:
Service and Customer Support is poor although existent
